BOW, NH – A Charity Driven Construction Project for Autistic Youth in the Local Community
Cobb Hill Construction is pleased to announce its first annual community service project, “Create in 48 – Skylar’s Therapy Room,” a charity-driven construction project for Skylar, a 7 year-old Bow resident suffering from Asperger Syndrome (AS). The construction of the therapy room will take place in just one weekend beginning October 4th. EnviroVantage of Epping, NH will take the lead with the first stage of the project, demolition, beginning Thursday, September 25th.
Cobb Hill, along with several like-minded local contractors and suppliers (see below for complete list), will construct a 24′ x 16′ therapy room, expansive enough to house the special activity equipment so important to Skylar’s medical and developmental needs. The construction of this room, as well as the equipment it contains, will play an essential role in his continued path to a successful and productive life.
The total estimated cost of the project is just under $50,000. Cobb Hill employees will provide their time and labor at no cost and additional materials and labor services are being donated through many local sources. Contributions can be made to the “Skylar’s Therapy Room Fund” through Citizens Bank. Aside from financial donations, support for both the crew and family is welcome during the weekend-long project at the family’s home in Bow.
Asperger Syndrome, (AS) is a neurobiological disorder that is part of a group of conditions called autism spectrum disorders. An effective treatment program builds on the child’s interests, offers a predictable schedule, teaches tasks as a series of simple steps, actively engages the child’s attention in highly structured activities, and provides regular reinforcement of behavior. The incidence of AS is not well established, but experts in population studies conservatively estimate that it effects two out of every 10,000 children. Boys are three to four times more likely than girls to have AS. For more information on this disease, visit the Autism Society of America at www.autism-society.org.
“It is an honor to be spearheading this project and encourage the community to join us in supporting the crew and family at the Bow home,” states Jerry Kingwill, Principal of Cobb Hill Construction. “Skylar is a bright child, and we are humbled to support his needs with this safe and comfortable therapy room.”
