Most types of mold are black, green, or gray. If you can see the mold, regardless of its color, we encourage you to contact us directly, and we’ll be happy to come out and inspect the area — free of charge. You aren’t required to go through a mold inspector first, but it can be helpful to do so if you don’t see any visual signs of growth.
If you suspect you have mold — or you don’t have any visual signs but suffer from allergy-like symptoms that can’t be explained — you can opt to hire a certified mold inspector. This expert will conduct scientific air sampling and collect samples that will be analyzed in a lab.
Should You Test for Mold Before Remediation?
Not necessarily. If the mold is localized, we can set up a work zone that will cover all impacted areas. We do encourage testing after the remediation process to verify that the treatment was successful.
When Should You Inspect for Mold?
You should inspect for mold if you experience any of the following scenarios:
- You smell a moldy or musty odor
- You or your pets develop persistent allergy-like symptoms
- You’ve recently had a flood, leak, or sewage backup
Looking for mold is also a typical part of the home inspection process.
You may not see visible signs, which is why it’s important to bring in the professionals. Mold needs moisture to thrive, so you’ll often find it in places where water can come into the home, such as basements, bathrooms, and attics.
How Much Does Mold Inspection Cost?
If you can see mold we encourage you to contact us directly, and we’ll come out and inspect the area at no cost to you.
If you smell an unpleasant odor and aren’t sure whether you have mold, we recommend you hire a professional mold inspector who will survey the area and take air samples. The typical cost is for air sampling is anywhere from $500 to $1,500 depending on the extent of the survey.
What is the Process for Mold Inspection?
It depends. If mold is visible, the inspection process is not necessarily a long one. We can come to your home, look at the area in question, and determine the next steps for mold removal. All of this can take place within a day or two, and we can schedule mold removal for the following day or within the next week, depending on our work load.
If you suspect mold but can’t see it, you’ll need to hire an outside expert who will conduct scientific air sampling and collect samples that will be analyzed in a lab. Most mold inspectors use labs that can around the results within 24 hours.
