Upon removal of all structures including tanks, piping, racks, bollards, pumps, valves, buildings and other structures, EnviroVantage was to backfill all below grade basements, pits, trenches and voids without removing or damaging slabs, tank foundations bases, and secondary containment walls and dikes.

  • 15 buildings, 3 separate AST tank farms – over 45 buildings and associated structures.
  • One Butadiene sphere and disposal of PCB oil.
  • Demolition included over 2+miles of above ground piping and various existing above ground structures.
  • Project encountered sanitary sewer lines, storm drains, water, and gas lines, electrical services.

Full-service planning and execution:

  • Multi-point coordination to/with the active dock area for ship delivery
  • Managed accessibility issues for the tank picks due to active train tracks and overhead power lines,
  • Synchronized the required cold dismantling 1/4” steel Butasphere (Butadiene Tank)
  • Coordinated project work around shipment/chemical delivery offloading to insure NO sparks
  • Dismantled all inactive utilities running parallel to active lines/pipes
  • Cleaned residual fuel from tanks prior to demolition

Challenge

A high-risk demolition in an active chemical processing site requires precision, adaptability, and strategic problem-solving. With hazardous material abatement, universal waste disposal, and demolition of complex infrastructure—including 15 buildings, 3 AST tank farms, a Butadiene sphere, and over two miles of above-ground piping—every step presents logistical and technical hurdles.

Our Solution

Successfully navigating active dock schedules, dismantling under extreme conditions, and protecting essential utilities while preventing sparks during chemical offloading tests the limits of engineering expertise, planning rigor, and operational excellence.

The success of this operation hinged on EnviroVantage’s ability to adapt, innovate, and maintain absolute control over all the moving parts involved in this project.
